Pharmacy Assistant

Job Description

• Compound (when applicable) and dispense medications for inpatients and outpatients based on prescriptions/orders from licensed physicians and dentists, adhering to the approved formulary and standards set by UAE authorities and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCI), under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

• Initiate and maintain both computerized and manual patient medication profiles to ensure safety by screening for contraindications, allergies, dosing accuracy, drug-drug and drug-food interactions, therapeutic duplications, and compliance with drug restriction policies.

• Perform delegated specialty pharmacy activities as required.

• Follow correct procedures for medication handling and storage, and recognize any physical or chemical changes that may affect medication quality, avoiding the dispensing of compromised products.

• Be knowledgeable of the approximately 1,500 formulary items and be flexible with work shifts/hours to support operational needs of the assigned unit or group.

• Support the pharmacist in preparing prescriptions and related medications for final dispensing, while seeking guidance when necessary but independently adhering to established protocols and exercising due diligence.

• Maintain proper storage conditions and security for all pharmaceutical products.

• Ensure appropriate labeling of high-alert medications, concentrated electrolytes, and hazardous materials in accordance with safety guidelines.

• Work within the pharmacy only when a licensed pharmacist is present.

• Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and circulars governing the pharmacy profession.
