Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION: 

  • Serves as a family practice specialist, primarily in the ambulatory setting. May serve in the inpatient facilities, after proper credentialing, providing appropriate care for selected cases.
  • The care provided shall be commensurate with the concept of family medicine; a comprehensive approach to integrated, complete medical service.

SCOPE: 

  • May be assigned to any outpatient or inpatient facility to include the Emergency Services. May be required to assist other specialists in Surgery, Obstetrics, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Pathology or Radiology and may be transferred to any district or service depending on manpower needs. Supervised by the Director of District Medical or Ambulatory Medical Services, Area Medical Directors or the Director of Speciality Medical Services.
  • Day-to-day supervision including assignment of duties provided by the Chief of Ambulatory Care, Area Medical Director or his designated Senior Physician.
  • Supervisors will make routine checks on the accuracy and completeness of patient care to include diagnoses and treatment.
  • Advice and consultation are obtained from the Supervisor, Work Director, or other Specialists in treating different cases.
  • The majority of professional problems encountered are solved without reference to the Supervisor.

PRINCIPAL CONTACTS: 

  • Has daily contact with Clinic and/or hospitalized patients, their families, nurses, and other physicians to achieve the goal of comprehensive medical care.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: 

  • Performs the professional duties of a family practice physician in a manner consistent with his/her training and by the privileges delineated by the Credentials Committee. Takes a medical history, 
  • Performs a physical examination, orders appropriate laboratory studies, makes a diagnosis and prescribes treatment as indicated. Is capable of interpreting laboratory and radiologic tests and determining the need, if any, for further, more sophisticated studies or tests.
  • Capable of serving as a consultant to the general practice physician for selected cases of difficult diagnoses or treatment commensurate with his/her training. Is particularly suited for this role in areas that lack Specialists in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics, and Pediatrics by his/her additional expertise. Is capable of providing comprehensive care to the family unit whenever such a need exists 
  • Will refer cases to Specialists in Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics as appropriate; particularly, whenever the medical problem exceeds his/her qualifications and/or training.
  • Capable of performing independently in emergencies requiring rapid, decisive action and accurate judgment. Must be capable of rendering treatment in such situations in a manner consistent with good medical 
  • Must be capable of directing nursing and ancillary medical personnel to best utilize their 
  • May be required to accompany patients requiring medical assistance by air or ambulance if such 
  • Evacuations are in the best interests of the patients. Is expected to respond to emergency calls from his place of residence on an "on-call" basis according to a schedule prepared by his supervisor.
  • Responsible for the preparation of complete, comprehensive and accurate medical records prepared in a neat and legible manner. Participates in peer review, quality assurance activities and other professional reviews as determined by his superiors. Attends continuing medical education (CME) meetings as time permits in order to maintain his skills at current acceptable levels.
  • Possesses and maintains a current license to practice medicine.

Job Skills

  • If medical school education was received in a language other than English, the applicant must demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Medical Director, the ability to communicate effectively in English. Medical Arabic is highly desirable. 
  • Ability to adapt to group practice in an industrial environment involving an understanding of corporate organization. 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Graduation from an approved medical school.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Current medical license from country of origin (if applicable).
  • Good physical and mental condition.
  • Affirmative recommendations.
  • Current medical license from DHA. 

QUALIFICATIONS BY SITE OF TRAINING.

  • U.S./Canadian
  • Board certification following 3 - 5 years of residency in an approved training program; as required by each board.
