Job Description

  • The employee maintains sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment required for the performance of duties.
  • The employee reports any shortage of materials to the supervisor at the earliest convenience and maintains records for ordering and replenishment.
  • The employee performs all sonography imaging procedures in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • The employee applies detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce images of high diagnostic quality.
  • The employee acquires additional images when necessary to ensure optimal diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.
  • The employee evaluates and assesses sonography images for acceptable quality, appropriateness, and completeness, and advises other staff when required.
  • The employee forwards all images to the radiologist for review and reporting.
  • The employee applies independent, professional, and ethical judgment during sonography examinations to ensure accurate capture of anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions.
  • The employee performs advanced sonography services and other delegated tasks in accordance with the supervising physician’s instructions and facility protocols.
  • The employee provides a preliminary report of the sonography examination for use by the interpreting physician.
  • The employee recognizes anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols and liaises with the radiologist to arrange further imaging or tests when necessary.
  • The employee ensures the safe and competent use of all ultrasound equipment, patient appliances, and aids used in the department.
  • The employee reports any incidents and equipment faults to senior staff in a timely manner.
  • The employee operates advanced software on specialized ultrasound equipment, including Doppler imaging.
  • The employee maintains a clean and organized working environment at all times.
  • The employee restocks supplies and ensures proper cleaning of equipment after use.
  • The employee provides advice to medical and technical staff on appropriate techniques and imaging interventions.
  • The employee handles initial inquiries from patients and clinical staff and relays relevant information to the appropriate clinical team when necessary.
  • The employee ensures accurate documentation by making proper entries in the Hospital Information System.
  • The employee inputs radiological images into the Hospital PACS system.

Job Skills

  • BSc in Radiography OR graduate from an accredited Diploma Program (NLT 3 year Syllabus) 
  • Graduate from an accredited Radiography program (NLT 2 years Syllabus), i.e The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • current National License Desired: Dedicated courses in specialised Sonography Imaging is preferred
  • Experience required in addition to the Qualifications mentioned above Required: · NLT 2 years post graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital. 
  • Including Doppler, obstetric/ gynecology and abdominal sonography.
