Job Description

  • Adhere to operating room attire policies and procedures at all times.

  • Prepare the operating room and assemble necessary instruments and equipment based on the patient’s surgical requirements.

  • Demonstrate expertise in aseptic technique to ensure a sterile environment.

  • Accurately identify patients and surgical sites to ensure safety.

  • Thoroughly review the pre-operative checklist, ensuring all required diagnostic and laboratory procedures are completed.

  • Monitor patients' vital signs in the pre-operative area and post-operative recovery room.

  • Position patients using positional aids, ensuring circulatory, respiratory, and neuromuscular stability, while maintaining patient privacy and providing maximum exposure for the surgical procedure.

  • Exhibit proficiency in both scrub nurse and circulating nurse duties.

  • Implement safety protocols, including "Time Out," to ensure patient safety and minimize surgical errors.

  • Follow strict aseptic techniques to prevent infection and maintain a sterile field during procedures.

  • Assist the surgeon and anesthetist during surgery, ensuring proper handling of surgical specimens.

  • Organize patient transportation from the operating room (OR) to the recovery room, and manage post-operative activities, ensuring readiness for the next procedure.

  • Adhere to hygiene, sterilization, asepsis, and disinfection protocols before, during, and after surgeries to ensure safety for both patients and staff.

  • Participate in the maintenance and care of specialized equipment, including endoscopes, electrosurgical units, microscopes, and phaco machines, ensuring proper decontamination and accurate traceability.

  • Accurately maintain the count of surgical instruments, swabs, and needles, and ensure all instruments are sent for cleaning and disinfection according to hospital policies.

  • Demonstrate competency in surgical hand-washing techniques and infection control practices within the operating theatre.

  • Monitor patients post-anesthesia to ensure optimal recovery, utilizing the Aldrete scoring system when applicable.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure accurate documentation of all relevant patient records, following hospital policies.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques.

  • Adhere to hospital policies regarding waste segregation, disposal, and inventory management of medications, including high-alert drugs and narcotics.

  • Ensure appropriate storage and inventory control of hazardous materials, including maintaining the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) as required.

  • Follow reporting mechanisms and the chain of command for patient care issues, ensuring quick and accurate communication.

  • Take responsibility for the unit in the absence of the Charge Nurse, managing ward stock efficiently and economically.

  • Participate in fire safety, patient safety, infection control, and other precautionary measures according to hospital policy.

  • Take responsibility for professional clinical practice, engaging in ongoing education and training.

  • Serve as a member of the hospital's code black team, participating in emergency response protocols.

  • Demonstrate strict adherence to hospital policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse or Supervisor.

  • Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures, working cooperatively with hospital management to meet these requirements.

  • Familiarize oneself with emergency and evacuation procedures, and participate in training, mock drills, and awareness programs.

  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety protocols at all times.

Job Skills

  •  Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited university.
  • Registered Nurse, Haad (DOH) Licensed.
  • Registered Nurse, valid license in the country of origin
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and any other unit specific training relevant to the area of specialty
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience post-graduation
