Registered Nurse(Labor and Delivery)

Job Description

• Prenatal Care: Provide comprehensive prenatal care to expectant mothers, including conducting assessments, monitoring fetal development, and educating patients about pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care.
• Labor Assistance: Assist laboring mothers during childbirth, providing emotional support, pain management techniques, and guidance on breathing exercises and relaxation techniques.
• Fetal Monitoring: Monitor fetal heart rate patterns and uterine contractions using electronic fetal monitoring equipment, promptly identifying any signs of fetal distress and notifying the healthcare team.
• Medication Administration: Administer medications as prescribed by healthcare providers, including intravenous fluids, oxytocin for labor augmentation, pain relief medications, and medications to prevent or manage complications.
• Delivery Assistance: Assist physicians or midwives during labor and delivery procedures, including vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and instrumental deliveries, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for both mother and baby.
• Postpartum Care: Provide postpartum care to mothers and newborns, including monitoring vital signs, assessing uterine involution, assisting with breastfeeding initiation, and providing guidance on newborn care and maternal self-care.
• Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about newborn care, breastfeeding techniques, postpartum recovery, and signs of complications, empowering them to make informed decisions and promoting positive health outcomes.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and comprehensive medical records, documenting assessments, interventions, medications administered, and patient responses in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
• Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with obstetricians, midwives, pediatricians, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure coordinated care and optimal outcomes for patients and their newborns.
• Emergency Response: Respond promptly and effectively to obstetrical emergencies, such as hemorrhage, umbilical cord prolapse, shoulder dystocia, and newborn resuscitation, following established protocols and procedures.
• Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, promoting evidence-based practices, and optimizing the quality of care delivery in the labor and delivery unit.
• Patient Advocacy: Advocate for the rights and preferences of laboring mothers, ensuring their voices are heard, their choices are respected, and their needs are addressed throughout the childbirth experience.
