Job Description

  • Patient Identification: Verify patient identity by cross-checking information on the requisition with the patient’s identification before performing venipuncture.

  • Venipuncture and Skin Puncture: Perform venipunctures and skin punctures efficiently and competently.

  • Tube Selection and Blood Volume: Possess complete knowledge of the correct tube color and required blood volume for various tests. Understand test requirements and assist in the Clinical Laboratory as needed.

  • Blood Collection Responsibilities: Conduct bleeding time tests, collect blood cultures, and manage the collection of blood samples. Ensure the blood collection room is properly maintained, including cleanliness and decorum.

  • Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Responsibilities:

    • Comply with EHS instructions, safe working procedures, local regulations, departmental EHS objectives, emergency protocols, and evacuation procedures.

    • Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, face shields, goggles, respirators, aprons, etc., and adhere to safety systems to ensure no harm to health and safety.

    • Assist in preparing risk assessments.

    • Report EHS hazards, incidents, near misses, and other safety concerns promptly.

Job Skills

  • Certification and Education: Certificate of training in an approved Phlebotomy program, or a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (1 year), or a Degree in any health-related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of practical experience as a Phlebotomist in a reputable medical laboratory.

  • Licensing: Must be currently licensed in the country of origin and hold a valid HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in both spoken and written English. Proficiency in Arabic is desirable but not essential.

  • Technical Skills: Ability to learn and handle automation and IT programs is desirable but not essential.
