Job Description

• Follow the lab phlebotomy manual and handbook for sample requirements.
• Ensure proper patient identification and labeling of samples using LIS.
• Determine the best method for drawing blood based on patient needs and collect blood samples.
• Receive, accept, and label urine and stool samples with accurate patient details (e.g., name, MRN, DOB, and dates).
• Organize and maintain the phlebotomy cart or station, adhering to infection control standards.
• Arrange and pack specimen samples for transport to the laboratory.
• Receive, accept, and accession lab specimens.
• Centrifuge blood samples according to lab protocols.
• Pack and arrange specimens for delivery to the central laboratory/reference lab.
• Accession and process specimens for clinical testing.
• Operate analyzers for various tests, including calibration, quality control, and troubleshooting (e.g., chemistry panels, immunoassays, and infectious disease tests).
• Perform allergy profile tests using blood samples.
• Conduct Urea Breath Tests (UBT).
• Accession and analyze specimens for hematology testing.
• Perform maintenance and quality control on hematology analyzers.
• Analyze blood samples for cell counts using automated and manual methods.
• Prepare and stain blood smears with Leishman and Giemsa stains.
• Perform rapid tests, such as sickle cell and malaria.
• Conduct initial microscopic examination of smears for blood parasites (e.g., malaria).
• Perform and ensure quality control of blood coagulation studies, including PT/INR, APTT, D-dimer, and fibrinogen tests.
