Job Description

• Surgical Preparation: Prepare the operating room (OR) for surgical procedures by ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterilized and readily available.
• Patient Preparation: Assist in preparing patients for surgery by positioning them on the operating table, applying sterile drapes, and verifying surgical site markings as directed by the surgical team.
• Instrumentation and Equipment: Assist surgeons and surgical teams by handing instruments, supplies, and equipment during procedures, maintaining a sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team.
• Surgical Assistance: Provide direct assistance to surgeons during procedures, including holding retractors, suctioning blood and fluids, and performing other tasks as delegated while adhering to aseptic technique and infection control protocols.
• Patient Monitoring: Monitor patients' vital signs, oxygenation, and anesthesia levels throughout surgical procedures, promptly identifying and reporting any deviations from normal parameters to the anesthesia provider and surgical team.
• Medication Administration: Administer medications and intravenous fluids as prescribed by the anesthesia provider or surgeon, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to medication safety protocols.
• Postoperative Care: Assist in transferring patients to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or surgical ward following surgery, providing ongoing monitoring, wound care, and pain management as needed.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all perioperative activities, including preoperative assessments, intraoperative interventions, and postoperative care, in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
• Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technicians, and other members of the surgical team to ensure safe and efficient patient care throughout the perioperative period.
• Emergency Response: Respond promptly and effectively to intraoperative emergencies and complications, following established protocols and procedures to stabilize patients and mitigate risks.
• Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient safety, optimizing surgical outcomes, and improving efficiency in the operation theater.
• Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' needs and preferences throughout the perioperative process, ensuring informed consent, respecting patient autonomy, and addressing concerns promptly.
