Nutritionist

Job Description

• Assess nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to develop and implement dietary care plans and provide nutritional counseling
• Consults with physicians and health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions of patients or client
• Advises patient and their families on nutritional principles, dietary plans and diet modifications, and food selection and preparation
• Counsels individuals and groups on basic rules of good nutrition, healthy eating habits, and nutrition monitoring to improve their quality of life
• Inspects meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and standards of palatability and appearance
• Provides substitutions if the patient is unable to eat the meal provided, by diet restrictions
• Evaluates appropriateness of diet order for diagnosis and recommends diet order changes as indicated
• Select, train and supervise workers who plan, prepare, and serve meals
• Develops nutrition care plans and monitors patient response to care plan developed
• Chart pertinent information from the nutritional care plan and interventions
• Collaborates with physicians and nurses to deliver quality nutrition care
• Acts as a Dietetic advisor to nursing, medical, allied health and catering staff in assigned areas
• Maintains accurate statistical records and reports as required by the department and the facility
• Performs all duties professionally and confidentially.
