Job Description

• Tissue Sample Processing: Perform histological procedures to prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination, including tissue fixation, embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting.
• Quality Control: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of histological specimens by adhering to quality control standards and protocols. Monitor staining techniques and equipment performance to maintain consistent results.
• Laboratory Operations: Manage day-to-day laboratory operations related to histotechnology, including specimen accessioning, tracking, and documentation. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to comply with regulatory requirements and safety standards.
• Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of histology equipment, such as microtomes, tissue processors, and staining machines. Coordinate repairs and calibrations as needed to ensure optimal performance.
• Analyze histological slides under a microscope to identify cellular structures, abnormalities, and pathological conditions accurately. Document findings and prepare detailed reports for pathologists or clinicians.
• Collaborate with pathologists, clinicians, and other laboratory staff to ensure timely and accurate diagnosis of diseases and conditions. Communicate effectively to provide updates on specimen processing and results interpretation.
• Adhere to regulatory requirements and guidelines governing histology laboratory practices, including DHA registration and compliance with local, national, and international standards.
• Stay informed about advancements in histotechnology techniques, equipment, and procedures through ongoing education and professional development activities. Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge in the field.
• Maintain accurate records of specimen processing, staining protocols, and quality control measures. Ensure compliance with documentation requirements for accreditation and regulatory purposes.
• Handle tissue specimens with care and sensitivity, recognizing the importance of each sample in contributing to patient diagnosis and treatment. Maintain confidentiality and privacy of patient information in accordance with healthcare privacy laws and policies.
