Infection Control Nurse

Job Description

• Regularly assess and analyze patient care practices, medical equipment, and healthcare environments to identify potential sources of infection.
• Create and enforce infection prevention and control protocols in compliance with regulatory standards and best practices, including isolation precautions, hand hygiene protocols, and environmental cleaning procedures.
• Provide education and training to healthcare staff, patients, and visitors on infection control practices, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and infection prevention measures.
• Perform surveillance activities to monitor and track healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) within the healthcare facility, including collecting and analyzing data, identifying trends, and implementing interventions to prevent and control infections.
• Investigate and respond to outbreaks of infectious diseases or incidents of potential exposure, collaborating with healthcare teams to implement control measures and prevent further transmission.
• Work closely with healthcare providers, infection control committees, and other interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement infection control strategies, policies, and initiatives.
• Stay up-to-date on relevant regulations, guidelines, and recommendations related to infection control from organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), and ensure compliance within the healthcare facility.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to continuously evaluate and enhance infection control practices, identify areas for improvement, and implement evidence-based interventions to optimize patient safety and outcomes.
• Conduct risk assessments for specific patient populations, procedures, or units within the healthcare facility to identify vulnerabilities and develop targeted infection prevention strategies.
• Serve as a leader or member of the infection control committee, participating in meetings, reviewing data, and making recommendations for improving infection control practices and outcomes.
