Job Description

  • Prepare tissue samples for routine microscopic analysis.

  • Record gross descriptions of small, uncomplicated specimens using specific terminology, in accordance with established procedures.

  • Prepare tissue samples following correct preservation procedures, including processing, freezing, and embedding, as outlined by protocol.

  • Section tissue samples using proper microtomy techniques on microtomes, producing slides of acceptable quality for staining according to procedure.

  • Prioritize and manage workload to meet expected Turn-Around-Times (TATs).

  • Maintain competence and continuously update skills as technology evolves.

  • Perform tissue staining for routine, special stains, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and enzyme histochemistry, as requested.

  • Accurately prepare, label, and store chemical solutions and stains according to procedural requirements and need.

  • Ensure accurate staining procedures, record Quality Control (QC) results, and evaluate stain quality for acceptability before releasing histological sections to the ordering pathologist.

  • Communicate stain quality results to the supervisor and/or ordering pathologist.

Job Skills

  • Education: B.Sc. in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or an equivalent qualification requiring no less than 3 years of training. The curriculum must include one year of specialization in the field or certification by ASCP in the specialty. A Master's degree (M.Sc.) or Post Graduate qualification in the specialty from an accredited program, leading to registration with ASCP/CSMLS or equivalent, is also acceptable.

  • Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of Medical Laboratory experience in Histopath procedures is required for Bachelor’s degree holders. For Post Graduate/M.Sc. holders, at least one (1) year of Medical Laboratory experience in Histopathology is required.

  • Licensing: Must be currently licensed in the country of origin and possess a valid HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in spoken and written English. Proficiency in Arabic is desirable but not essential.

  • Technical Skills: Ability to learn and handle automation and IT programs is desirable but not essential.
