Job Description

  • Supervision of transport of patient to dialysis room and positioning of patient on bed at Hemodialysis station.
  •  Sets up and operates Hemodialysis machine to provide dialysis treatment for patients. 
  •  Calculates fluid removal or replacement to be achieved during dialysis procedure. 
  •  Takes and records patient's pre-dialysis weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration rate. 
  •  Explains dialysis procedure and operation of Hemodialysis machine to patient before treatment to allay anxieties. 
  •  Be polite to patient and attendants and direct patient/ attendant to doctor for any clinical query. 
  •  Inspects equipment settings, including pressures, conductivity, and temperature to ensure conformance to safety standards. 
  •  Mixes dialysate according to formula. 
  • Attaches dialyzer and tubing to machine and assemble it for use. 
  •  Primes dialyzer with saline or heparinized solution to prepare machine for use. 
  •  Cleans area of access, using antiseptic solution.Connects Hemodialysis machine to access in patient's forearm or catheter site to start blood circulating through dialyzer. 
  •  Starts blood flow pump at prescribed rate. 
  •  Inspects venous and arterial pressures as registered on equipment to ensure pressures are within established limits. 
  •  Monitors patient for adverse reaction/ vitals and Hemodialysis machine for malfunction. 
  •  Takes and records patient's post dialysis weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse rate, and respiration rate. 
  •  Sets up/assembles consumable such as cannulas, tubing, catheters, connectors and fitting as per nephrologist.
  •  Direct supervision of nursing staff regarding hemodialysis patient transfer, cannulation of venous catheters, catheter care, dialysis machine connection, starting of hemodialysis, preparing the dialyzer, connecting to patients, monitoring of patients during hemodialysis and post treatment care. 
  •  Assists the physician in catheter insertion (jugular, subclavian and femoral catheters). 
  • Daily follow up of water treatment unit operation and to check whether there is malfunction, monitor the chloramine levels, dialysate PH and water hardness.
  •  To check the hemodialysis machine daily before connection and disconnection for potential troubleshooting. 
  •  Make sure to perform disinfection of hemodialysis machine after treatment. 
  •  Performance of disinfection of hemodialysis unit at the end of the day. 
  •  Ensure that all the staff adhere strictly to disinfection practices. 
  • Assist the physician in insertion of tunneled hemodialysis lines. 
  •  Assisting the physician in insertion of peritoneal dialysis catheters. 
  •  Perform the flushing of Peritoneal dialysis catheters: immediate post insertion and on follow up. 
  •  Initiation of Peritoneal dialysis exchanges in the hospital.
  •  Connects the peritoneal dialysis cycler to the patient. 
  •  Imparts education to the patient regarding peritoneal dialysis. 
  •  Imparts peritoneal dialysis training to the patients. 
  •  Co-ordinates the visits of the call-in patients on peritoneal dialysis. 
  •  Check the cycler machine for defects and malfunction. 
  •  Imparts training to the patients on twin bag exchanges. 
  •  Performs a PET test and adequacy test on peritoneal dialysis. 
  •  Any other relevant work as per instructed by supervisor/ Management.Participate in Quality Improvement Program as needed. 
  •  Adhere to the policy laid down by organization. 
  •  Responsible to coordinate with Nephrologist to prepare and maintain policies and processes for Renal Care.(Dialysis/OPD) 
  •  Responsible to develop department manual in coordination with Nephrologist. 
  •  Responsible to arrange for shifts specific waste management. 
  • Responsible to maintain optimal stocks and arrange for all consumables (Regular and Special).
  •  Responsible to coordinate with and for the repairs and maintenance of all equipment at Renal Care unit. 
  •  To coordinate with Insurance/Billing regarding all queries billing, pricing, packaging, insurance etc. 
  •  Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements 
  •  Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities 
  •  Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures 3
  •  Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports 
  •  Comply with Waste management procedures and policies 
  •  Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs 
  •  Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.Work in all shifts as scheduled by head of the department. 
  •  Strictly adheres to organization’s regulations and policies especially those related to infection control, patient safety, EHSMS, HAAD, JCI and ISO. 
  •  Supports Continuous Quality Improvement and participates and contributes to all the quality assurance activities of the service. 
  •  Participates and contributes in scheduled in-service training programs. 
  •  Exercises effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, associates and management. 
  • Maintains confidentiality as per the agreement signed. 
  •  Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them. 
  •  Carries out other duties when requested by the Head of department.

Job Skills

  • Bachelor Degree in Dialysis or its equivalent with minimum 3 (three) years course. 
  •  Current license in the country of origin, with HAAD License to practice in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
  •  The ability to apply technical skills, together with a demonstrable knowledge of and interest in sciences, such as anatomy, physiology and physics. 
  •  Self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure. 
  •  Fluent spoken and written English. Spoken Arabic is advantageous but not essential. 5.6 Minimum 2 (two) years’ experience in respective field along with home country registration
