Charge Nurse - Operation Room

Job Description

• Coordinate and oversee the activities of the OR nursing staff, including circulating nurses, scrub nurses, and surgical technologists.
• Ensure that proper patient care is provided throughout the surgical process, from pre-operative preparation to post-operative care. This includes assessing patients, monitoring vital signs, and administering medications as needed.
• Ensure that the operating room is set up correctly for each procedure, including checking equipment, instruments, and supplies. Coordinate with the surgical team to ensure all necessary materials are available.
• Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols and infection control measures in the OR. This includes ensuring that all staff members follow proper procedures for sterilization and aseptic techniques.
• Serve as a liaison between the surgical team, other healthcare providers, and support staff. Communicate effectively with surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and other team members to ensure that everyone is informed and working together efficiently.
• Be prepared to respond quickly and effectively to any emergencies that may arise during surgery, such as cardiac arrest or massive bleeding. Coordinate emergency procedures and ensure that all staff members are trained in basic life support techniques.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of all surgical procedures, including patient information, surgical counts, and any complications or incidents that occur during surgery.
• Provide guidance, support, and education to OR staff members to ensure that they are competent and up-to-date on best practices and procedures.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care, streamline processes, and improve outcomes in the OR.
• Demonstrate strong leadership skills, including the ability to make quick decisions, prioritize tasks, and effectively manage resources in a fast-paced environment.
